The BMU Fashion & Design Skilling Program is a four-month professional development course designed exclusively for registered Black Models members.
This program equips social change agents with practical fashion design and garment construction skills to enhance their personal brand, industry knowledge, and income potential.

By the end of the program, participating agents will confidently understand how garments are designed, cut, sewn, and finished. They will also gain knowledge in fabric selection, fashion trends, branding, and marketing within the fashion industry.
This program combines technical skills, creativity, and entrepreneurship to empower social change agents beyond the runway preparing them for self-reliance, fashion entrepreneurship, and broader opportunities within the creative industry.
This program is exclusively available to: Black Models Uganda.
Only registered and active social change agents are eligible to participate.
Models attend hands-on Fashion & Design training every first Sunday of the week.
Each session focuses on progressive skill-building, creativity development, and professional growth within the fashion industry.
Trainees learn basic machine control, straight stitching, seam finishing, and handling fabric while producing a simple protective pron.
Work apron
Focus on measurements, cutting, and joining garment piece. Trainees practice elastic waistbands, and simple garment assembly.
Pajamas
Trainees learn accurate body measurements, waistband attachment, hemming, and fitting techniques.
Skirt
Combines previous skills while introducing, shaping, neat finishing, and garment presentation.
Baby dress
Trainees learn upper body garment construction, neckline shaping, and sleeve attachment.
Blouse
Focuses on collars, button stands, and neat finishing techniques for professional- looking garments.
Shirt
Trainees practice fitting, seam strength, and garment balance for comfort and durability.
Pair of shorts
Combines multiple construction techniques including shaping, zippers or closures, and finishing.
Dresses
Focuses on structures garment construction, waistbands, and proper fitting for lower-body wear.
Pair of trousers
Teaches durability in garment construction and reinforced stitching for workwear.
Work overall
Introduces lining, shaping, and formal garment finishing techniques.
Waist coat
Complex garment involving, and formal garment finishing techniques.
Safari jacket
Trainees design and construct garments inspired by cultural styles and tradition finishing.
Traditional wear
Training in handling heavy fabrics, lining, and structured finishing.
Overcoat
Trainees create original designs based on selected theme, applying all skills learned.
Developing fashion on a given theme
Final presentation of garment, introduction to branding, marketing, and customer presentation.
Exhibition and fashion show
Upon successful completion of the four-month training program, participating agents will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from the Black Models Uganda Skilling Department.
The certificate recognizes the trainee’s technical competence, creativity, and readiness to pursue opportunities in fashion design, tailoring, and related business ventures.
These rules and regulations are designed to ensure smooth training sessions, protect equipment, promote safety, and encourage mutual respect among trainees and instructors. All sewing trainees are expected to read, understand, and follow these guidelines throughout their training period.
