Yet mental wellbeing plays a vital role in helping individuals restore confidence, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
At Black Models Uganda, our work goes beyond fashion and creative expression. Our mission focuses on building a safe and inclusive community for refugee artisans— particularly women and girls—while advocating for their rights and supporting their journey toward economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.
Recently, the organization hosted a creative photoshoot session that brought together models, designers, and participants from both refugee and host communities. While the event celebrated fashion, creativity, and identity, its impact extended far beyond the camera lens.
For many refugees, displacement can bring feelings of isolation, identity loss, and emotional stress. Creative spaces can offer powerful opportunities for healing and self-expression.
